Privacy Policy

Effective 18 October 2026

The short version: Commutez has no account, no ads, no analytics and no tracking, and runs no servers of its own. Your addresses and settings stay on your devices and in your own iCloud. To plan a trip, the app sends coordinates to public transport and weather services, and nothing else about you.

Who is responsible

Commutez is developed by Kristian Frydstad, Norway, who is the data controller for the little data described below. Contact: support@commutez.app.

Data stored on your devices

Your home and work addresses (or a station you pick instead), your schedule, chosen lines and other settings are stored on your device. If you are signed in to iCloud, these settings are synced between your own iPhone, Apple Watch and Mac through Apple's iCloud key-value storage. This data is stored in your iCloud account. The developer cannot see it.

Data sent to plan your trips

To find departures, the app sends coordinates of your start and destination (your saved places, or your current position if you have turned on location) directly from your device to the transit service for your region:

These requests do not include your name, Apple ID or any identifier tied to you. Each service handles the request under its own privacy policy, and like any web service it may see your IP address.

Location

Location is off by default, and Commutez only asks for it if you turn on Location in the app. When you do:

Your location is never stored by the developer, and never sold or shared for any other purpose. You can turn it off at any time in the app or in iOS Settings.

Notifications

Departure alerts, Live Activities and the countdown badge are scheduled locally on your device. If you send feedback, the app may ask permission to notify you when the developer replies. That notification is delivered through Apple's iCloud (CloudKit) service.

Feedback you choose to send

If you send feedback from inside the app, it is stored in the app's CloudKit database at Apple. A feedback report contains:

Diagnostics never include your addresses or coordinates. The developer sees an anonymous CloudKit identifier, not your name or Apple ID, unless you write it in your message. If you are not signed in to iCloud, feedback is sent by email instead, and the developer then sees your email address.

Feedback is kept only as long as it is needed to follow up, and is deleted on request.

What Commutez does not do

Your rights

Under the GDPR you can ask for access to, correction of, or deletion of personal data the developer holds about you. In practice that is only feedback you have sent. Write to support@commutez.app. You can delete everything stored on your device by deleting the app. Data in your iCloud is managed in your Apple ID settings. You also have the right to complain to the Norwegian Data Protection Authority (Datatilsynet).

Children

Commutez is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal data from them.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be published on this page with a new effective date.
